My love of the mountains began on this island in my childhood, and that love has since carried me across the world through various mountain activities. It eventually led to a later-life chapter as a ski instructor in Courmayeur, Italy.
I bring to my therapeutic work a deep knowledge of skiing—not only as a source of immense, sublime pleasure, but also as a technical discipline that calls for emotional regulation, self-awareness, and the management of expectations. I also draw on the symbolic power of mountains as metaphors in therapy, alongside my experience as an art therapist and my understanding of our shared human longing for awe, wonder, and beauty.
Returning to the mountains and sea of Scotland—especially to the profoundly healing island of Arran—has been a grounding reconnection with my generational roots and with the early sense of amazement I first felt here as a child.
